Am I Qualified?

If you have been applying for jobs the USAJOBS.gov website and have been unsuccessful in getting hired or even referred to a hiring manager, this service could be especially helpful. It could be that you are making simple mistakes each time you apply and as a result the HR Specialist is unable to qualify you. Perhaps your resume does not support the level of required experience and/or you did not meet the length of experience required or you failed to meet a selective placement factor (SPF) that may have been included in the announcement. Even if you have applied numerous times for the same position it does not mean the exact same qualifications requirements were used each time. Our team of experts are able to perform a qualifications review and help identify any deficiencies.

Disclaimer: Determining a person’s qualifications is subjective--not all HR specialists agree all of the time, regardless of our results the final determination will be up to the hiring agency’s HR Specialist.

If you would like us to complete an objective review of your qualifications you will need to provide copies of the following documents:

***We recommend redacting all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) before sending any personal documents***

  • A copy of the announcement you applied to;
  • A copy of the resume you submitted.
  • Copies of all of the Notice of Results, Notification, and Disposition letters (and/or any other communication that you received) regarding the status of that particular position.
  • A copy of the transcripts you submitted (if applicable).
  • A copy of any licensures or certificates you submitted (if applicable).

VETERANS:

There is no need to send copies of your DD 214 and/or VA Disability letter (if applicable) if you are certain you received proper credit for veteran’s preference. If you are uncertain or disagree with the level of veteran’s preference previously granted and would like us to adjudicate your veteran’s preference then you will need to provide copies of:

  • Member 4 copy of your DD 214, which shows the character of service in block 24;

  • VA Disability letter dated after 1991 that shows your combined disability percentage (if applicable).

The results of the qualifications review will include the following:

  • Did we agree with your previous qualifications review, if not, why not?
  • Identify deficiencies seen within your resume which may or may not have prevented you from being referred to a hiring manager.
  • How you can improve your future applications.

Real Time Review

NOTE: If you want us to perform a qualifications review for a current job posting open to the Public prior to the closing date you will need to either provide a copy of the announcement or the USAJOBS Announcement Number (Ex. DE-12345678-20-ABC) along with copies of all of the other documents you submitted. Because jobs open to the public are generally only posted publicly for a period of 5 days or less it may not be practical to complete the review prior to the announcement closing. For this reason we ask that you provide this information at least two days prior to the closing date. If you would like us to complete a Real Time Review prior to the closing date of your announcement you will need to provide copies of the following documents:

***We recommend redacting all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) before sending any personal documents***

  • Copy of the USA Jobs Announcement, or, the USAJOBS Announcement Number (Ex. DE-12345678-20-ABC), or, a link to the posting;
  • A copy of the resume you submitted;
  • A copy of the transcripts you submitted (if applicable);
  • A copy of any licensures or certificates you submitted (if applicable);
  • Any additional document(s) you submitted when you applied.

NOTE:

If you are a veteran and you are claiming veteran’s preference and wish us to determine the type preference for which you are entitled, please indicate which preference you claimed (ex. CPS, CP, TP & XP) when you submitted your application package. You will need to provide copies of your DD-214 (Member Copy – 4) and/or VA Disability letter (dated 1991 or later which shows your combined rating), if applicable

Which jobs should I apply for?

The short answer is, ones you are qualified for. According to the 2013 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics there are more than 2 million federal civilian workers employed in 350 different occupations. To determine which occupations, you should apply for requires an “honest assessment” of your knowledge, skills and abilities based primarily on the experience demonstrated in your resume and depending on the position, your educational background may also be used. A common mistake made by those seeking federal employment is they are applying for positions they want, but aren’t necessarily qualified for. The key is to match your proven demonstrated experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies to the correct occupational series and grade levels. Unless you are familiar with the OPM’s Classification & Qualifications for General Schedule, Federal Wage System Qualifications and the Handbook of Occupational Groups and Families manual you may find this difficult.

If you would like us to perform an assessment of your experience, knowledge skills, abilities and competencies you will need to provide copies of the following documents;

***We recommend reacting all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) before sending any personal documents***

  • Detailed copy of your resume with your entire work history;
  • College transcripts, and a list of other educational training certificates/licensures you may have received.

The results of your review will include the following:

  • A list of recommended job series/possible grade levels;
  • Identified deficiencies within your resume or other documents;
  • How you can improve your future applications.
